We are hiring a full-time, permanent Manager, Transmission Operations working out of Edmonton, AB.
This position will be responsible for leading a team of experienced field crews and working closely with Transmission Engineering groups, Transmission Planning and the Program Management group to prioritize and schedule work.
What you’d be responsible for
- Ensuring safe, reliable and efficient performance of Transmission Operations for all substations up to 500kV, high voltage underground cables and transmission lines.
- Fostering positive safety attitudes and leading a team toward a zero injury and illness culture
- Developing, implementing and reviewing processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks
- Managing and coaching a strong team of employees, with a focus on retention and professional development
- Assisting with budget tracking and variance explanations
- Ensuring accurate and proper time entries for individuals in their area
- Developing and nurturing a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented workforce that is easy to collaborate with.
- Providing field resources for capital projects, maintenance and repairs programs. Successful delivery of capital projects and maintenance and repairs programs to time, quality and cost.
- External workforce management and supervision
What’s required to be successful
- Certification as a Power Systems Electrician, or Electrical Engineering Technologist (or equivalent), or a degree in electrical engineering or other relevant post-secondary education
- A combination of education and work experience may be considered
- 5+ years of relevant experience in construction, operation and maintenance in an electrical utility
- Strong safety leadership and management skills, including a solid understanding of the electrical safety issues associated with Transmission and System Operations
- Proven abilities and experience in a leadership role
- Managing in a unionized environment is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Transmission system construction methods, procedures, work practices and techniques for high voltage transmission underground cables, lines, substation apparatus, protection & control, and SCADA work
- Ability to collaborate effectively and influence stakeholders who are not direct reports but are essential to design, construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interface and work effectively with other teams in the organization
